If you want to have a glimpse at some old Spain, then this is the place to visit in Barcelona. The Barcelona Barri Gotic, known in English as the Gothic Quarter is a picturesque area where it is not difficult to imagine a dim and distant era. In fact, this used to be a Roman village, so you will find remnants of this magnificent time rubbing shoulders with more modern buildings.

When you visit Barri Gotic, take the time to get your bearings: it consists of a labyrinth of cobbled streets with tall buildings jostling for space. You will discover many peaceful squares, but the main one is right in the centre of the Gothic Quarter and where you’ll find the Cathedral with its spectacular courtyard and its resident geese.

Eating and shopping are just two of the activities that you will be able to enjoy here, but if you just want to soak up the ambience, then you may be interested to know that it is here that Picasso worked from 1895 to 1904.
